Secret Alias wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 6:46 am The point of all of my efforts is to find a new structure for explaining the origins of the gospel. Not a structure of my choosing. But dictated by the earliest sources and traditions.

In this case.

1. Samaritanism is older than Judaism closer to the origins of the Pentateuch.
2. the Alexandrian tradition is rooted in Philo who, presumably owing to his status in the Alexandrian Jewish community is close(r) to the Oniad tradition, the oldest Jewish tradition.
3. Jesus announcing the gospel on a Jubilee as mevasser* would be an expression of (1) and (2).

* mevasser (מְבַשֵּׂר), which is a Hebrew word meaning "announcer" or "herald." It is derived from the root בשר (b-s-r), meaning "to bring good news" or "to proclaim." In the context of the Bible, it often refers to someone who announces good news or proclaims a message, similar to the role of an evangelist.

Though the Semitic concept may be related, the English word "gospel" is not Semitic in etymology, which is all that I indicated.

Now I am wondering what the 'stupid' scholars are saying and if that has anything to do with the emails.
