This is interesting. Not for my theory necessarily. But for the fact that 6:16 is apparently cited but the next sentence is the one with the variation. Why is that? What was Epiphanius's strategy here. Why is “Judas Iscariot, which was a betrayer" cited at all?
I didn't read anything here other than your post (grain of salt), but quotes can be used in lieu of versification to indicate a context.
