And before we lose cite of the original point of the thread, the problem I am raising is as follows:
1. there is strong evidence to suggest that Paul claimed to have not been influenced by previous traditions of Christianity
2. how then did he know that Jesus was resurrected?
In other words, it can't have been from a written or oral 'report.' Paul must have received that information 'by revelation' and one must imagine from his 'great revelation' when he went to the third heaven and Paradise.

Only if you read the text literally like an apologist, and take it out of context.
Probably because no one denied it, learned while he was hunting members of the movement down.2. how then did he know that Jesus was resurrected?

If that had been the case, the way we see these communities write in prose, it would have been the foundation for his authority. And it was not! it was just a minor blurb your feeding on out of context.

So your point is that it doesn't matter that Paul said he never accepted 'tradition according to men' or was understood never to have consulted with any men to establish his gospel. You see no conflict or difficulty.

You answered that in your next post -Secret Alias wrote:Based on what?I don't like pagan religions beyond thinking that Paul may have been interacting with them and some of their tenets may have found their way into the books of the NT.

- part of the redaction process? or
- because he was part of the community that developed the narrative?
- a bit of both?

Re: How Did Paul Know Jesus Was Resurrected?
Why would we assume that someone other than Paul invented the resurrection? Why is the most reasonable option for you (viz. 'pagan churches') to go outside all attested evidence to find your answers? It's utterly baffling.

I don't. I've never before thought about which specific persons (or early Christian 'traditions') might have invented 'the resurrection'.Secret Alias wrote: Why would we assume that someone other than Paul invented the resurrection?
I engaged with you on this (without reference to those other mobs) in my previous post to you on this thread viz. -

Because, as far as the resurrection goes, many so-called pagan religions had a tradition of dying and rising gods!Secret Alias wrote: Why is the most reasonable option for you (viz. 'pagan churches') to go outside all attested evidence to find your answers?

The same reliance on pet theories ad opposed to actual evidence could be used to argue that Paul was a pimp, or a chef, or a giraffe.
