I am reading a little book of André Ragot (Aux sources du christianisme).
In particular, about the two witnesses, he doubts that they were contemporaries of the 70 CE events, since the Acts don't talk about them.
He dates them to the Pompey's conquest of Jerusalem, the two Beasts being Rome and the impious priest, Hyrcanus II, Antigonus and Herod the Great.
