The question is raised by this short allusion:

Whatever historical core, if any, lies behind the story of Jesus before Pilate, based on the historical evidence and the internal narrative flaws, the gospel scene in which Pilate tries to release Jesus over Jewish objections and ultimately yields to their demands has to be considered completely fictional. It was the Romans who wanted Jesus executed. Pilate didn’t want to release him and the governor didn’t succumb to any Jewish pressure.

Just claiming that parts of the passion story are church fiction does not make a claim about the mythicicity of the entire life and death.

Pilate, along with the high priests were skimming off the top from the temple treasury. An accusation that caused deadly riots in the past. Therefore, Pilot needed an excuse (no matter how absurd) to put to death the leader of the rebellion before it got out of hand.

By the way, there is no space bank or even an ATM in outer-space, therefore Jesus exist.

Gary has answered to my mail, saying that there would be no incompatibility between his position on the proto-gospel and mythicism, apart possibly the shorter time between the presumed death of Jesus and the writing of the first gospel (one that, possibly and not conclusively, could precede even Paul). He doesn't think that this short time would confute mythicism, at any case.
